Less than wonderful plumbersThe plumbing in my flat is 30 years old and slightly strange. As it worked I put off doing anything about it until I got so fed up with launderettes that I bought a washing machine. Big mistake!The first plumber couldn't do it for a month but if I liked he would consider fitting me in four of five weeks down the line. The second one had a secretary who said he would get back to me. He didn't bother. The third wouldn't do things like that. The fourth person I rang was a washing machine repair man. He didn't do plumbing. but gave me a number. The fifth came round and said I needed lots of new stuff. He could do it for a third the cost of the washing machine the following Tuesday early evening. but wasn't very keen. Needless to say next Tuesday evening the job still wasn't done and he didn't bother to turn up. The sixth was only three hours late, Couldn't possibly put it where I wanted as that was too far away from the water supply. He would have to remove a kitchen unit and put it there. I was impressed as this was further away from the water supply. He wanted to charge me the cost of the machine to plumb it in. I went to the DIY shop and found that the parts would cost less than £20. Now if I do it myself it will cost very little but if it doesn't work there might be a problem as I live in a flat. Think of the poor people below me. I wondered if I should I go for the one expensive quote that was not ludicrous? Well the work was supposed to be done at a time when I should have been preparing for a new class. It looks like I am left with no option but to do the job myself or just not bother with the machine at all. Plumbers are more than a little boring. In the end I rang 14 plumbers. None of them could do it when I wanted. Some of them could recommend a friend. Think I will start training to be the friend of a plumber. |
